Change starts with understanding the person
Knowing what to change and actually changing it are separate problems, and most health technology works only on the first. Opti-U was built to work on both. This page sets out what we believe and how those beliefs shaped the platform.
Measurement has outpaced understanding
Millions of people now wear a device that records their sleep, heart rate and activity around the clock. The sensors are accurate, and sleep, recovery and strain scores now come with almost every watch, ring and band on the market.
A sleep score tells you how last night went. It cannot tell you why it went that way, or how the next fortnight is likely to unfold if nothing changes. People now hold more data about themselves than at any point in history, and the work of making sense of it still falls on them.
Health is decided by behaviour
Much of what shapes long-term health and performance happens in ordinary daily decisions about sleep, stress, movement, recovery and routine. People rarely lack information about those decisions. The gap sits between intention and action. Across the studies reviewed by Rhodes and de Bruijn, 46% of people who intended to become more active did not follow through.
Closing that gap is a psychological problem before it is a technical one. Opti-U treats it as both.
Every person needs their own model
Good psychological practice starts by understanding the individual, including their history and circumstances and the patterns that keep a behaviour going, before any change is proposed. Two people with the same broken sleep can have completely different reasons for it, and the advice that fixes one can do nothing for the other.
Most digital health products still give everyone a version of the same plan. Opti-U starts from the opposite position. It builds an understanding of you first, and every recommendation comes from that understanding.
A digital twin of you
Engineers use digital twins to run jet engines and power grids. A twin is a live model kept in step with the real system, used to read its current state and to test a change before making it for real.
Opti-U applies that idea to a person. Your twin learns your own baselines from your physiology and your behaviour, detects when you drift away from them, and forecasts how the coming days and weeks are likely to go. You can test a change on the model before you commit to it in your life. The twin is built with machine learning, mathematical modelling and statistics, and every day of data makes it more specific to you.
Evidence about you, from you
Population research tells you what works on average. Opti-U runs structured experiments inside your own routine, measures how you respond, and keeps a finding only when your own data supports it. Links between your behaviour and your physiology are shown only once at least three weeks of data stand behind them.
When the data is too thin to support a conclusion, the twin tells you and holds back. A confident answer built on weak data does more harm than an honest gap.
Insight has to change what you do today
Opti-U turns what your twin learns into one clear next step each day, sized to the state you are actually in, and rebuilds the plan each week from what you did and how you responded. It begins with a consultation that maps your goals and circumstances, and recalibration consultations keep the plan aligned as your life changes.
The guidance draws on established behaviour-change science. You see it as plain actions and questions, with the science working underneath.
Your data stays yours
A model this personal is built from data people rarely share. We never sell it or use it for advertising. An employer, club or team that provides Opti-U sees aggregated results only and never your individual readings or what you write. The data and security page sets out exactly how it is protected.
Opti-U is not a medical device and does not replace care. Every coaching message passes safety checks, and anyone who shows signs of being at risk is directed to crisis support.
From recovery to Opti-U
My route into this work began with addiction and recovery. Rebuilding my life showed me first-hand how hard lasting change is, and how much it depends on understanding the person who is trying to make it.
That interest took me to the University of Lincoln to study psychology, and into work as a research assistant. I saw how carefully psychology builds an understanding of each individual before deciding what to change, and how little of that care reaches the digital products most people use every day.
When I came across digital twin technology, I saw a way to bring that individual understanding to anyone, continuously, from the data they already generate. Opti-U is the result.

The road ahead
Opti-U is built to become the operating system for the human you're becoming, a model that understands you well enough to forecast where you are heading and help you change course in time. The platform is in alpha testing now, and the waitlist is open on the home page.
